Two Birds, One Stone
...Or rather two lovebirds and one creatively romantic evening. It was late September in Dallas, as the Texas summer began too loose its grasp to make way for the relief of October, when Patrick connected with me about his wedding plans coming up fast the following month. He brought in hand a grand plan detailing a smaller, less conventional wedding that neatly wrapped a wedding proposal and ceremony inside a single, memorable evening. Having already discussed marriage with his then girlfriend, Jana, Patrick wanted to go beyond the commonly expected proposal surprise. Instead, having already shopped for a wedding dress just "for fun" with Jana, he aimed to pop the question and immediately surprise her with their closest friends and family, a hair and makeup stylist, and that "just for fun" dress she picked out earlier. If there was a Guinness World Record for shortest engagement, Patrick was eyeing it closely.
The evening took place at the beautiful Bella Donna Chapel in Dallas, unique in its Mediterranean charm and subtle detailing. Its tranquil atmosphere had further transformed for the night being bathed by golden candlelight, cloaking the space with shadows dancing amidst the warm glow. The entirety of the room looked to be a dreamscape, gliding on the edge of reality and fairytale. A string quartet found their spots on the raised altar in front and began preparing for Jana's arrival. Shortly after, the woody, gliding timbre of the cello lilted over the air, joined in concert by the viola and violin. The notes seemed to be singing invitations for the lady of the evening, playing the part of a lure meant to draw her to the chapel without any suspicions.
Needless to say, the evening was magic. Jana, completely unaware, was first stunned by the proposal, then overwhelmed to find their dearest loved ones gathered to celebrate not just their engagement — but their wedding. What followed was a ceremony marked by intimacy, gratitude, and deep celebration, a truly unforgettable beginning to Patrick and Jana’s life together.
